The book is a perfect travel companion, argues Greg Robl
in his second "Letter from America".
Any day can be made extraordinary by reading a book.
A three-hour layover at O'Hare Airport in Chicago? No
big deal... if you have a book with you. |

Gregory R. Robl is a librarian at the University of Colorado
at Boulder. He will send "Letters from America" on a regular basis.
In his first letter, he introduces us to the state of
Kansas, its immigrants and churches. |

Kelly, Ranger in Yosemite National Park, writes about
her job and the "Flood of the Century" in January, 1997.
Two and a half days of warm and heavy rain brought great
change to Yosemite. Initially, 900 visitors and 1,200 park employees were
isolated in Yosemite Valley when all three highways into the Valley were
closed. After the water subsided, downed trees were removed and repairs
were made to allow the evacuation of visitors and employees from Yosemite
Valley. |
